More than 21,000 people are already working in the Summer Student Work Program
For the twelfth time this year, the government has announced the Summer Student Work program, which is popular across the country, with a budget of around HUF 3.8 billion. Due to the outstanding interest, the counties have increased the resource limit by almost half a billion forints, so that so far almost 3,700 employers can employ 21,400 students from 4.3 billion forints – Sándor Czomba, the state secretary responsible for employment policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), summarized in his statement on Wednesday.
Evaluating the data, he highlighted: the government has been working to achieve full employment since 2010, while paying special attention to increasing the labor market activity of young people, so compared to the Gyurcsány era, there are now 1 million more people working, for an average of three times the salary. The salary earned by young people through summer student work is also higher thanks to the tax exemption for those under 25.
The state secretary added that since 2013, the Summer Student Work Program has made a significant contribution to the construction of a work-based society, which helps young people enter the labor market and strengthens their work socialization process, while students can also complete their professional internships with their work.
Students between the ages of 16-25, full-time students, who are not currently employed, and who do not have a business relationship can apply to the program. The subsidies can be called up by local governments and businesses operating in agriculture, tourism, hospitality, and forestry – the state secretary’s statement reminded.
