Online doctors are now taking care of Tesco customers
In June, Tesco further expanded its employee benefits package. From the beginning of the summer, store and warehouse workers can also use the online GP service free of charge. The doctors available to employees can be consulted online or by telephone in various fields, from dermatology to endocrinology to urology, they can write prescriptions and, if necessary, help to arrange an appointment for specialist care.
In recent years, Tesco has developed an extremely diverse benefits package for its employees, the total value of which is already HUF 4.6 billion in the 2025/26 financial year. Among other things, the department store chain provides a Cafeteria package – which was increased by 25% in June this year, so that it can now be reached up to HUF 301,000 for an 8-hour workweek – and a 15% employee shopping discount, rewards employees celebrating anniversaries, greets new parents with a baby package coupon, provides school enrollment support and an extra day off for parents of schoolchildren, gives Christmas vouchers, provides free training, and also helps employees and their family members with lifestyle, financial and legal issues within the framework of the free Employee Support Program. The list of these benefits was further expanded at the beginning of the summer.
From June, Tesco employees will be able to access the online GP service via the MEDDI application. Within this framework, they can consult a doctor every day of the week and 24 hours a day (even on weekends) in case of questions or complaints. They can request help through the application, either via chat, video or voice call, or by dialing a toll-free number. Doctors can be consulted in the fields of dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pulmonary medicine, radiology, and urology. In addition to providing advice, they will write a prescription, help you schedule an appointment for specialist care at the location closest to the colleague concerned, and provide an official medical report after each consultation. The service is not only available directly to colleagues, but they can share their MEDDI account with 1 adult dependent and extend it to cover 2 children. Moreover, the service is available not only in Hungarian, but also in 14 additional languages, so it can also be used by foreign colleagues working in Hungary.
In addition, Tesco employees can also use MEDDI’s BioScan function once a month, which scans the face through the smartphone camera and can determine blood pressure, pulse and blood sugar levels in this form.
Another program focusing on the health of colleagues has also been launched at Tesco in recent months. Since last autumn, the supermarket chain has also been organizing blood sampling opportunities for its employees for screening purposes. After the eastern and western parts of the country and the logistics center, the specialists will “go to the house” in the Budapest, Pest county and central offices for the rest of the year.
