The government has announced the Summer Student Work Program for the thirteenth time this year, which helps young people to gain employment, with the help of which students aged 16-25 can gain valuable work experience – Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), highlighted in his statement on Tuesday.

Thanks to the program, which ran until the end of August, almost 30,000 people have already found work, so the number of young people participating has increased almost one and a half times in one month. The popularity of the program is clearly demonstrated by the fact that around 4,600 employers have so far committed a total of nearly 5 billion forints in support.

Sándor Czomba emphasized that the Summer Student Work Program has also contributed to the building of a work-based society since 2013, helping young people enter the labor market, strengthening their work socialization, and in many cases providing students with the opportunity to complete their professional internships within the framework of the program. Young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who are studying full-time and do not have an employment or business relationship can apply for the program. Local governments, religious legal entities, and businesses operating in the fields of agriculture, tourism, hospitality, and forestry are eligible to receive the subsidies.

Under the program, employers in the local government pillar will be reimbursed 100 percent of the salary amount if they employ students for a maximum of 6 hours a day – but not more than the guaranteed minimum wage or minimum wage applicable for a 6-hour workday.

Students are entitled to a maximum of 8 hours of employment in the fields of tourism and hospitality, agriculture, or forestry. Employers will be reimbursed 75 percent of the salary amount as a wage subsidy – but not more than 75 percent of the guaranteed minimum wage or minimum wage.

Thanks to the program, students can thus gain meaningful earning opportunities, and their net wages are further increased by the personal income tax exemption for those under 25 – the State Secretary reminded.

As he explained, this year the most applications came from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Veszprém, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Baranya counties. 81 percent of the participating students are employed in the local government pillar, nearly 5 thousand young people have been employed in the tourism and hospitality sector, while more than 560 students are employed in agriculture.

The most popular jobs are other, not elsewhere classified, simple service and transport occupations, cleaning and support staff, office assistant delivery, and kitchen support positions – the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Culture explained.
