PENNY and MUNCH have already sold food in nearly 100 stores
Munch’s increasingly popular food rescue service is already available in PENNY stores throughout Budapest, as well as in the counties of Baranya, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Hajdú-Bihar, Komárom-Esztergom, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Pest and Vas. With the 65 newly joined units, discounted food packages are now available in a total of 97 stores of the retail chain.
The aim of the store chain and the online platform is to join forces in the fight against food waste. The cooperation, which started in the spring of 2023, can already show significant results: more than 10,000 people from Munich have so far saved nearly 30,000 packages, worth more than HUF 90 million. In PENNY stores, customers can choose from two types of Munch packages: fruit and vegetable and mixed surprise products with a discount of at least 50 percent. Nothing proves the popularity of the packages and the satisfaction of customers better than the fact that the posts in the Facebook groups of the Munch food rescue community have so far reached nearly 1.6 million users.
Those interested can buy the surprise packages via the Munch app or website, which can then be picked up at the designated PENNY store in a pre-specified time slot. The packages include products with a short expiration date or products that are still fully suitable for consumption but have a non-standard appearance for an outstandingly discounted price.
