The amount of food waste in Hungary is about 1.8 million tons annually
In Hungary about 1.8 million tons of food ends up as waste, approximately one-quarter in the households – the Minister of State of the Ministry of Agriculture (FM), responsible for food chain surveillance said on Tuesday in Budapes at the Central European conference on food waste, organized by the Századvég Gazdaságkutató Zrt. and the Tesco-Global Áruházak Zrt.
Zsigó Róbert explained that according to the calculations, an average Hungarian family throws out 50 thousand HUF worth food into the trash a year. This represents about 40-50 kilogram food waste per capita, which is about 400 thousand tons for the total Hungarian population. (MTI)
