As a committed partner of the FAO, Hungary actively contributes to the organization’s work and the realization of its goals. The European and Central Asian Regional Office of the FAO and its Joint Service Center have been operating successfully in Budapest for almost 15 years, and the Hungarian side helps to achieve sustainable development goals with a number of joint events, an international agricultural scholarship program covering almost 50 countries, and the financing of joint projects.

Only previously defined common goals can be achieved through continuous work

At the meeting, the Deputy State Secretary emphasized that the Hungarian government will continue to do everything to ensure the uninterrupted work of the FAO and encourage the continuation of successful projects in our country. He stressed the importance of cooperation, especially in the current difficult times. The Deputy Director-General underlined that the FAO’s strategic framework plan for 2022-2031 contributes to the goals defined in the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Framework by supporting the creation of a more efficient, resilient and sustainable agricultural and food system, which focuses on better production, nutrition, a more favorable environment and a safer, more predictable quality of life. He also mentioned challenges such as climate change and existing conflicts. He praised the efficient and humane Hungarian government’s role in the direction of the Ukrainian refugees, as well as the outstanding social assistance.
