A Hungarian company also won the competition of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Smapp Lab together with two foreign companies received the main prize of the competition for food technology startups, the EBRD told MTI on Tuesday.

The insect monitoring platform of the Hungarian company supports the optimal use of pesticides, the machines of the Tunisian Kumulus produce fresh water in a sustainable manner, and the growth additives of the Turkish Biftek reduce the costs of laboratory meat production – read the description of the winners. One of the other winners developed an irrigation support system, and there is also a company that makes edible cups to reduce waste.
The winners were selected in part based on the importance of the problem they were trying to solve
In addition, the uniqueness of the products and services, the market entry strategy or the opportunities inherent in the developments were also taken into account. The winners receive personalized consulting support, receive a 10,000-euro grant for additional services, and can appear on international forums.
The EBRD justified the announcement with climate change and population explosion. In 2050, there will be 9.6 billion people on Earth, so solutions to the difficulties of food supply systems must be found. Support for innovative products, services and technologies can contribute to the sustainability and efficiency of the agri-food industry, they added.
