Magazine: Innovation centre to be built for the full recycling of PET bottles
By next autumn Recy-Pet Kft. (new member of the BUSZESZ-Aquarius group) will finish building a net 4,638m² innovation centre in the Karcag Industrial Park.
The foundation stone of the centre was laid on 25 October 2013. European Union funding is used in the construction of the new innovation facility called ‘FOOD-GRADE’, where the recycling of PET waste from food industry packaging will be the main activity. At the moment there is no technology in Hungary for the recycling of collected PET waste in a quality that is good enough for food industry reuse. Because of this Hungary is forced to import PET bottle base material. By building the ‘FOOD-GRADE’ centre Recy-Pet Kft.’s goal is to establish a food and environmental industry innovation centre where R&D firms, researchers and university students get the opportunity to do innovative interdisciplinary work in the fields of food industry and waste management. The technological objective is to recycle PET bottles (with cap and label) into granule, which can be 100-percent reused for PET bottle production instead of the present 30-35 percent level. In ‘FOOD-GRADE’ there won’t only be a research centre building with laboratories and state-of-the-art IT background, but also a production line for technology testing purposes. plans to collect and process 9,000-10,000 tons of waste
