Madagascar Dream gin creation won the Kalumba cocktail competition

A specialty cocktail made by Bence Vígh took home the main prize at the Kalumba Madagascar Gin cocktail competition. Lovers of spicy gin and cooling summer drinks showed off their mixing skills at a special challenge on July 17 on the A38 Hajó Schweppes terrace.

In the competition between Kalumba and Schweppes, Vígh Bence’s Madagascar Dream cocktail proved to be the best, thus winning participation in one of the most prestigious events in the bar and beverage industry, Bar Convent in Berlin.

Popular cocktails reimagined, clever pairings, surprising seasonings and fantastic taste experiences – the competition between Kalumba and Schweppes creates an opportunity for all of this. Entrants strive to create the perfect cocktail, which contains at least 30ml of Kalumba Gin, a Schweppes soft drink and a total of up to six different ingredients, excluding ice and garnish. The ten most exciting drink poems of the online competition made it to the finals, the bartenders tested their skills in front of a renowned jury, in the unique lounge bar of the A38 Hajó, on the Schweppes terrace.

The finalists could present the story of their cocktail in six minutes and talk about their inspiration while preparing their competition drink. The creations were judged by Anett Monori and Norbert Tengely, members of the Hungarian Bartender Association, as well as Csaba Gulyás, Zwack’s distillate expert, based on the cocktail’s flavor, creativity, as well as the originality, ingenuity and imagination of the presentation. Ádám Vitai, the bartender at High Note SkyBar, took the third place on the podium with his Spiced Delight cocktail, and the second place went to László Majlinger, the bartender at Higgi the Tiki in Győr, with his Lunatic drink. Jury Bence Vígh awarded first place to the Madagascar Dream cocktail and captivating presentation made by Gin Corner bartender in Budapest, who won a trip to Berlin to Bar Convent in addition to the Kalumba gift package.
