The spring seasonal food chain inspection period has concluded. Conducted between March 24 and April 18 under the coordination of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih), the inspections focused on food products most in demand during the Easter holiday season. As a result of the campaign, nearly two tons of non-compliant food products were withdrawn from the market, and fines totaling HUF 5 million were imposed – Agrárszektor points out.

During the spring inspection period, 482 checks were carried out by the regional food chain control authorities under the direction of Nébih. The inspections primarily targeted meat products, bakery and confectionery goods, as well as egg packaging facilities and wine product distributors. The most frequent issues found were hygiene deficiencies and failure to meet food codex or product specification requirements.

Where were irregularities found?

  • 166 meat product manufacturers

  • 139 bakery facilities

  • 55 confectionery producers

  • 73 egg packaging plants

  • 49 wine product distributors were inspected.

The operation resulted in:

  • 5 official warnings issued,

  • 38 proceedings initiated,

  • Activity restrictions imposed in 4 cases (2 meat and 2 bakery producers).

In total, 48 food items, amounting to 1,879 kilograms, were removed from the market. These were typically expired or lacked traceable ingredients or documentation.

Bakery sector showed most deficiencies

The most critical problems were identified in the bakery sector, where hygiene lapses and non-compliance with food codex or production specifications were common. In contrast, confectionery facilities and egg packaging plants generally operated in accordance with the regulations, with only minor infractions. The inspection of wine products, including imported and sparkling wines, also yielded positive results.
