K&H: every second employee struggles with stress, this is how we can protect ourselves against burnout
Two-thirds of Hungarian workers lack mental health at work, while workplace stress and constant overload are no longer a private problem, but a collective epidemic. October 10 is World Mental Health Day – a day when we draw attention to the importance of mental well-being worldwide. According to the WHO, depression and anxiety are now among the leading causes of reduced work capacity. The message of the World Day is that it is time to slow down, breathe and ensure that the workplace is not a place of burnout, but of balanced performance.
World Mental Health Day is held every year on October 10 to draw attention to the importance of mental well-being. The World Mental Health Day, initiated by the WHO, aims to reduce the taboos surrounding mental illness and emphasizes that maintaining mental health is in everyone’s common interest. Stress, anxiety and burnout can affect almost everyone today, so it is important to talk about it and take action for our mental well-being. This is also a serious challenge in Hungary: according to the Pénzcentrum 2024 summary, 45 percent of employees struggle with mental challenges, while only 12 percent receive some kind of support. This ratio highlights that although this ratio is high, support structures in many places do not follow the real needs.
At K&H Bank, they take mental health seriously
Supporting mental health is not only about the individual, the team and joint performance also benefit from it. K&H’s wellbeing strategy is built on five pillars: mental, physical, social, financial and intellectual well-being. The program includes stress management workshops, mindfulness classes, expert consultations and a 24-hour helpline for employees. Physical well-being is supported by yoga, pilates, spinal exercises and breathing technique training, while community cohesion is strengthened by the Team Blue Challenge volunteering program, in which more than three thousand employees have already participated. The educational programs also provide a useful handhold in everyday life. Presentations on sleep, nutrition, resilience and digital tools.
“Performance expectations can only be maintained in the long term if we pay attention not only to their professional preparedness, but also to the physical and mental well-being of employees. The potential hidden in our colleagues is our greatest asset, which is why we constantly strive to ensure that, in addition to providing opportunities for professional fulfillment, wellbeing is also constantly on the agenda”
– said Medvey Leila, HR Director at K&H.
