Slow but steady growth in sunflower producer prices
Oil World experts expect a global sunflower seed harvest of 53.7 million tonnes in the 2024/2025 marketing year, down 9 percent from 2023/2024. The expected consumption is 55.4 million tonnes, and the closing stock of the crop is 2.8 million tonnes.
According to Tallage, 8.4 million tonnes (–15 percent) of sunflower seeds can be harvested in the European Union this year. In France, the harvest was delayed due to rainy weather. The total harvest is 1.6 million tonnes, which is 21 percent lower than a year earlier. In Romania, output decreased by 20 percent to 1.7 million tonnes, and in Bulgaria by 18 percent to 1.5 million tonnes this year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in Hungary, farmers harvested 1.7 million tons of sunflower seeds this year, with an average yield of 2.5 tons/hectare
According to AKI PÁIR data, processors and traders purchased high oleic sunflower seeds (HO) at a price of 224.7 thousand forints/ton (+63 percent), and high oil content (LO) at a price of 206.4 thousand forints/ton (+62 percent) in the last week of November. The producer price of industrial sunflower seeds (including high oleic sunflower seeds) excluding VAT and transport costs was on average 214 thousand forints/ton (+62 percent).
