KSH: The number of foreign guest workers in Hungary has increased
According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the number of foreign guest workers in Hungary increased significantly in 2023. In the publication Helyzetkép, 2023 – Labor market, the KSH explains that the number of employees with foreign citizenship increased by 11.7 thousand compared to the previous year, reaching 92.7 thousand.
The largest increase was seen in the number of third-country workers, especially among those from the Philippines, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, India and Russia. At the same time, the number of Ukrainian, Slovak and Romanian workers decreased.
The data shows that Ukrainian guest workers continue to dominate, with 22,802 people. This is followed by Slovaks (7,611 people), Romanians (7,211 people), people from the Philippines (6,274 people) and China (5,879 people).
The KSH publication mentions that the new guest worker law adopted in November 2023 regulates in detail the conditions of residence and employment of third-country workers. The law still limits the number of guest workers to the average number of vacancies in the previous year.
