In a joint statement, the BIOEAST member countries call attention to the importance of research and innovation related to the sustainable use of natural resources
The consecutive Hungarian EU presidency, in cooperation with the BIOEAST initiative, organized a high-level political forum in Brussels to promote research and innovation in Central and Eastern Europe.
They presented the declaration and manifesto supported by the 10 member states, in which they emphasize the importance of creating a joint research and innovation partnership covering the whole of Europe, but focusing on the priorities of the macro-region. The goal was the sustainable production of agricultural, forestry and freshwater raw materials and their transformation into products with greater added value. From the point of view of Europe’s sustainable socio-economic development, special attention must be paid to the preservation of food security and the potential inherent in the biomass-based economy.
A policy forum was held in Brussels at the permanent representation of our country with the participation of representatives of the 27 member states and the European institutions. At the event called “Partnering for the Future”, in addition to Hungary, a joint statement of 22 ministers of agriculture and research from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Croatia, Poland, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia was presented. The policy forum discussed the development of research and innovation in Central and Eastern Europe within the framework of policy development of sustainable natural resource management, food security and biomass-based economy.
