The harvest of sweet corn in Hungary started with the early varieties. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, experts expect slightly less than last year’s 500 thousand tons of crop area of 28 thousand hectares. At the traditional sweet corn trade event of Syngenta it was said that despite the challenges, Hungary continues to maintain its leading position in the field of sweet corn.

In recent years, a significant part of Hungarian sweet corn, amounting to around 450-500 thousand tons, is processed by canning and deep-freezing companies, and then exported to many parts of the world. Two-thirds of the harvested crops will be canned, and the rest will be quick-frozen tubular or crumbled products. With this quantity, Hungary ranks second in the world market. The world’s leading sweet corn producer is the United States, where they can harvest 3 million tons of their favorite vegetables annually.
