Nearly 30,000 people worked in this year’s Summer Student Work Program
The government is constantly working to ensure that everyone who wants and can work can work. To this end, the government announced the Summer Student Work Program for the thirteenth time this year, which helps young people to get jobs. Around 30,000 young people found work in the program, which ran in July-August. The popularity of the program is also clearly demonstrated by the fact that more than 4,600 employers have used nearly 5 billion forints in support to employ young people – summarized Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), in his statement issued on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the Summer Student Work Program has also contributed to the development of a work-based society since 2013, which facilitates the entry of young people into the labor market, strengthens their work socialization, and students can even complete their professional internships within the framework of the program.
Students between the ages of 16 and 25 who were studying full-time, were not employed, and did not have a business relationship could apply for the program.
The grants could be used by local governments, religious legal entities, and enterprises operating in agriculture, tourism, hospitality, and forestry – the state secretary reminded.
He reported that most applications came from Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Veszprém, and Baranya counties. More than 80 percent of the students were employed in the local government pillar, and there was also significant demand in the tourism and hospitality sectors, where nearly 5,000 people worked.
Nearly 600 students were employed in agriculture, but about 80 students also worked in forestry.
The most popular jobs were other simple service and delivery occupations not elsewhere classified, cleaning and support staff, office assistant and delivery person, and kitchen assistant – summed up Sándor Czomba.
