Nearly 20,000 families were helped by SPAR customers at this year’s Giving Joy! in the context of fundraising
The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service and SPAR Hungary have joined forces to give Joy! thanks to its fundraising campaign, 143 tons of food could be made into gift packages in 2022, which will be delivered to 19,500 families before the holidays by the staff of the charity service. This year, customers could also send their personal wishes to the recipients via the website www.adniorom.hu.
Giving is Joy! in a Christmas food fundraiser, the people donating are a kind of anonymous benefactor to another family whose members are unknown. In order to make the experience of giving a gift somewhat more intimate, this year donors could send their personal messages to families in need along with the gift. The Hungarian Maltese Charity and SPAR Hungary have been organizing their pre-Christmas campaign for more than a quarter of a century, this year was the 26th such occasion.
“3,000 of our volunteers settled in the stores designated for collection between December 15 and 20, 2022, encouraging customers to donate non-perishable food to people in need if they can. Tens of thousands of people did this this year as well, thanks to which 143 tons of non-perishable food donations were collected. The customers of the SPAR and INTERSPAR stores and the SPAR Online shop contributed to the success of the charity initiative by donating more than HUF 7.3 million through donation cards purchased in person or online. With the help of the donated non-perishable food items and the amount of money collected, this year our employees put together 19,500 gift packages, and they will deliver them to the most needy families before the holidays.”
– said Tamás Romhányi, the organization’s head of communication.
