We produce nearly 2 million tonnes of food surplus each year
In Hungary, we throw away nearly 2 million tonnes of food each year. The Food Bank aims to save the food surplus and deliver it to people in need.
The association in its initiative started at the end of year 2015 put the focus on saving the surpluses in the rural towns. The local partners of the Food Bank Association are looking for food manufacturers and trader companies in eight cities; producers, bakeries, shops, who are reluctant to donate their remaining products, rather than destroy them.
The cities involved in the project are: Békéscsaba, Debrecen, Miskolc, Nyíregyháza, Pécs, Szeged, Szolnok and Budapest
