Rice turnover concentrates and the 501-1,000-gram format is dominant
Retail sales of rice diminished by 2 percent in value and by 3 percent in volume in the April 2008-March 2009 period. According to the Nielsen Retail Index, the size of the annual market is around HUF 10 billion and above 29,000 tons. It is really noteworthy that the value share of private label products was 40 percent in two-month periods. In packaging the 501-1,000-gram unit dominates, realising one third of value sales. As for store types, only the 401-2,500 m² category managed to better its performance, by 4 and 5 percent; especially discount stores strengthened.
