Major price drop in the cereal market
Data from the Market Price Information System (PÁIR) of the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI) reveals: on the last week of March, the price of milling wheat – without VAT and shipping costs – was HUF 87.6 thousand/tonne in Hungary (-27% if compared with the same period of 2022), feed wheat cost HUF 81.3 thousand/tonne (-37%), and feed corn’s price was HUF 86.1 thousand/tonne (-23%).
In the same period, the production price of sunflower seed was HUF 175 thousand/tonne (-34%), rapeseed cost HUF 190 thousand/tonne (-29%), and soybean could be purchased from producers for HUF 190.9 thousand/tonne.
On 1 December 2022 there were 871.7 thousand sheep in Hungary, as the stock reduced by 2% from the December 2021 level. Hungary’s live sheep export was down almost 5% (at 10 thousand tonnes), but its value increased by 15% (to HUF 17bn) in 2022 if compared with 2021. Italy’s share from our export was 66%, but we sold 13% less sheep there; our export to Germany was up 5%. //
