Food portions in stores became smaller – consumer protection also reacted
For a year and a half, napi.hu monitored the stores’ offerings and found that certain products are now being sold for less for the same amount of money as before. Consumer protection says that this is illegal only if the customers do not receive adequate information. According to the National Trade Association, the so-called shrinking is a common practice in times of high inflation, and customers are also looking for smaller packages.
“Maybe it can be sold better that way, and people don’t want to pay so much”
– said a customer to RTL Hírado.
The largest box of sour cream – regardless of the brand – is 850, the medium 330, and the smallest 140 grams. We didn’t find half-liter or two-decis. Packaged cold meats have also gone down: instead of the previous 10 dekas, salami comes in 7 dekas, and ham and sausages in 9 dekas in one package.
