The price of pork increased significantly in China
In China, pork prices rose 116 percent in January, compared to a year before. According to the Chinese Bureau of Statistics, the rise in prices contributed to the 20.6 percent increase in food prices and a 5.4 percent increase in inflation – origo wrotem after CNBC.
Analysts polled by Reuters expected a 4.9 percent annual rise in consumer prices.
Pork prices rose dramatically between December and January, which experts attribute to Lunar New Year celebrations and coronavirus diseases. However, prices were mainly caused by the emergence of African swine fever, which meant that much of the country’s pig population had to be destroyed. (origo)
