Cereal prices are soaring, but there is no threat of stock shortage
Data from the Market Price Information System (PÁIR) of the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI) reveals: in Hungary on the first week of October, the price of bread wheat was HUF 137.2 thousand/tonne without VAT and shipping costs, which was 65% more than one year earlier.
Feed wheat cost HUF 130.4 thousand /tonne (+55%), and buyers had to pay HUF 138.4 thousand/tonne for feed maize (+63%). The production price of industrial sunflower seed was HUF 274.4 thousand/ tonne (+52%).
According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s live cattle export dropped 9%, while import in this product category grew by 7% in January-July 2022, if compared with the same period of 2021. Our beef export was down 19% in volume, but its value increased by 25%. Beef import fell 15% in volume and climbed 59% in value. //
