It is extremely important for Hungarians that the shops operate in a sustainable manner
Environmental awareness is becoming an increasingly important aspect for customers, and according to a recent survey, Hungarians also find it extremely important that stores operate in a sustainable manner. Based on the national and capital data, it can be seen that a significant number of Hungarians, and especially those of Budapest, do not consider the current operation of stores to be sustainable. Accordingly, customers try to contribute to the protection of the environment in different ways.
According to the research, most people try to protect the environment by using reusable bags, which is especially true for women and consumers in Western Hungary. In addition, the rest of the customers selectively collect garbage in shopping centers and go shopping by public transport, which is typical for people living in the capital.
According to those interviewed, shops most often try to reduce their ecological footprint by selective waste collection, online communication and e-invoicing, and energy-saving lighting. However, shoppers believe that stores and malls could do more to be sustainable.
According to the participants in the research, stores should, for example, put more emphasis on the use of recycled packaging materials and optimize cooling and heating systems. Stores should build green terraces and consider using renewable energy sources such as solar panels.
