K&H: the minority of working young people expect a wage increase that exceeds inflation
There are still a majority of young people who are generally dissatisfied with their lives in terms of several factors – for example, work or study, housing situation, financial security or even self-realization. Among 19-29-year-olds, 6 out of 10 felt this way in the third quarter, according to the K&H youth index. The majority of employed young people do expect their salary to rise, but they see a salary increase below the rate of inflation as only realistic.
For three quarters of a year, young people can be said to be in a relatively bad mood, at least the majority of them are dissatisfied with their lives – including their work, learning, self-realization, housing situation, financial security, family environment, leisure opportunities and health – this is what K&H came up with youth index. According to the survey conducted in the 19-29 age group in the third quarter, the youth index was +10 points, which does not represent a change compared to the previous four quarters, when the index ranged between 9 and 11 points, but at the same time it is well below the 14 points measured since the beginning of 2017 from average.
The overall satisfaction with life index has not been this low since 2012, and it has only once had a lower value than the current one since the index began to be measured. There was no improvement in terms of work or study, financial security, housing, independence, family situation, free time and self-realization. The opinion of the active, i.e. workers, generally stagnated or improved minimally, while the opinion of students typically worsened.
