The chatbot of the parcel delivery company swore and wrote a poem about the company’s downfall
Delivery company DPD was forced to shut down its online chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI) after a customer insulted the bot and wrote a poem about the failure of the parcel delivery company.
Behind the story is a 30-year-old man named Ashley Beauchamp, who tried in vain to find out the whereabouts of his missing package through the chatbot, but was disappointed to find that the artificial intelligence did not provide him with any useful information.
Beauchamp explained that the chatbot was unable to provide information about the package, wasn’t able to transfer his complaint to a human, and wasn’t even able to provide a call center number. Because of this, he got into a tense exchange with the chatbot, which unexpectedly started swearing and wrote a disparaging poem about DPD’s service.
DPD reacted quickly to the situation and stopped the chatbot immediately. Beauchamp reported the incident on Twitter, where the story soon went viral, with more than a million views in one day. DPD also noticed the problem, announcing that they had found a bug in the chatbot’s operation and were taking urgent steps to shut it down.
