Heineken Aims For Carbon Neutrality By 2040
Heineken has announced its ambition to become carbon neutral by 2040, becoming the first global brewer to set this target.
This announcement is the first in a series of refreshed ‘Brewing a Better World’ ambitions by the drinks company, which underpin its new EverGreen growth strategy.
Heineken is aiming for all of its production sites to become carbon neutral by maximising energy efficiency and increasing reliance on renewable energy use by 2030.
The brewer will work closely with suppliers to cut emissions by 30% by 2030 across its entire value chain, from a 2018 baseline.
Since 2008, the group has reduced carbon emissions per hectoliter in its breweries by 51%.
