A campaign was launched in November to promote sunflower honey
The Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Marketing Center and the National Hungarian Beekeeping Association announced a one-month campaign to promote honey consumption, including sunflower honey, they announced at the campaign’s press conference on Thursday.
Zsolt Feldman, the Secretary of State responsible for agriculture and rural development of the Ministry of Agriculture, said in his greeting: the activity of bees affects the entire agriculture, the entire food production. The sector is also of fundamental importance for the health of the consumer and agriculture. If there were no bees, every sixth food item would disappear from store shelves, he added. He emphasized: Hungarian consumers can provide the greatest help to beekeepers, since their purchases open up market opportunities for the sale of Hungarian honey.
He pointed out that there is a honey market crisis in the whole of Europe, the cause of which is “honey-like” products coming from outside Europe. He said: the struggle to amend European regulations is ongoing. In August of this year, a regulation was introduced in Hungary, according to which all countries of origin must be indicated on the packaging of honey.
