Despite earlier disputes the European Union’s 2014-2020 budget was given the green light and the funding system seems to be stable for the next seven years – on both member sate and EU level. At the same time it is also a positive sign that groceries are becoming a more valuable commodity in the world market. Until 2020 the food sector in Hungary will receive HUF 725 billion in funding from the EU and the national budget each year. In 2014 land owners will receive about HUF 67,000 per hectare in the Single Area Payment Scheme. In the second half of the year businesses in livestock farming and food processing will have the chance to apply for funding through many programmes, in order to make enterprises in the sector more profitable. On the government’s food industry agenda the supporting of livestock farming is one of the priorities.
