Tesco is making good progress with the sustainability project
Tesco is committed to sustainable operations and has set ambitious goals to achieve complete carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2035, and net zero emissions in its supply chain by 2050. To achieve this, the company has launched various initiatives aimed at reducing emissions, food waste and waste, and increasing the use of renewable energy sources.
Tesco has made significant progress in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Compared to the base year of 2016, Hungary managed to reduce their emissions by 63%. The introduction of electric vehicles in logistics played an important role in achieving this. In 2021, Hungary’s first electric Volvo truck was commissioned to deliver Unilever products to Tesco stores. From 2023, Mars products will be transported exclusively by electric trucks, emitting 4,790 kilograms less greenhouse gases per year. In addition, they expanded their home delivery fleet in Budapest with fully electric vans in 2022.
