DélKerTÉSZ significantly increased its turnover
Despite the increased costs, the DélKerTÉSZ in Szentes, consisting of five hundred growers, whose members mainly grow tomatoes and peppers, sold 56 thousand tons of vegetables by 13.3 thousand tons more than the previous year in the first nine months of the year – the cooperative informed MTI .
According to the announcement, fresh market products accounted for 25 thousand tons of the sold quantity, and industrial vegetables and plants accounted for 31 thousand tons. In the first nine months of the year, the amount delivered to domestic supermarket chains increased by 7 percent, however, consumers are buying less and less at normal prices, rather they are looking for special offers in the case of vegetables and fruits, they said, adding that regular price reductions for producers are not sustainable in the for keeping consumption at the same level. This is especially true in the colder months when production takes place in heated films.
The cooperative’s sales revenue from fruit and vegetable sales reached HUF 19 billion in the first nine months
This represents an annual increase of HUF 4 billion. By the end of the year, sales revenue is expected to reach HUF 22 billion. In the first three quarters of the year, the export revenue was HUF 3.3 billion, about HUF 300 million higher than the previous year. Due to the exchange rate effect, the cooperative was able to sell on the Czech and Slovak markets at a lower unit price than last year.
The costs, which increase by about HUF 700 million on an annual basis, affect the results
In addition to the higher freight costs and the introduction of the EPR fee, among the input material prices, although the price of fertilizer decreased, a significant increase was observed in the case of plant protection agents, which makes the situation of producers more difficult. Similarly, the price of collapsible boxes, which are essential for transportation, has soared. High interest rates not only have a negative impact on results, but also make future investments and developments more difficult – they noted. The announcement quotes the president Sándor Nagypéter, who explained: the goal of DélKerTÉSZ is to appear with its own physical and online store. Direct sales can start around next Easter in Budapest, so by the fresh market season, Szentes vegetables would be available not only in chain stores, but also in the company’s own store.
The cooperative considers it an important task to ensure the supply of the horticulture profession in order to ensure that in 10-15 years there will be professionals with up-to-date knowledge. In order to rejuvenate the producer membership, a long-term mentoring program will be launched next year with the Alföldi Agricultural Vocational Training Center and the Bartha János Horticultural Technical College, and a joint practical research garden will be established.
