The price of eggs has dropped significantly
Based on data from the European Commission, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 23 percent to 47,000 tons in the first five months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. 76 percent of imports came from Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

The community’s egg and egg product exports increased by 18 percent to 148,000 tons in January-May 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The EU’s largest target countries: the United Kingdom (40 percent share of exports), Japan (18 percent) and Switzerland (13 percent) together bought 104,000 tons of eggs and egg products from the community in the first five months of this year.
Exports to the United Kingdom increased by 3 percent, to Switzerland by 16 percent, and to Japan by 19 percent in the observed period
According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage keeping in Hungary was HUF 48.49/piece in the first thirty-five weeks of 2024, which was 18.6 percent lower than the average price for the same period of 2023. The packing point price of boxed eggs of size class M decreased by 17.1 percent to HUF 51.46/piece, and that of boxed eggs of size class L decreased by 15.8 percent to HUF 60.40/piece. The packing point price of M-tray eggs decreased by 21.4 percent to HUF 43.44/piece, and that of L-tray eggs decreased by 21.9 percent to HUF 46.72/piece. The packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from deep-laying was HUF 57.14/piece in the first thirty-five weeks of 2024, which is 14.5 percent lower than the average price for the same period of 2023.
