Significant progress is expected in organic farming in Hungary
Compared to the previous year, an increase of about 41,000 hectares, almost 14%, is expected for organic farms, and compared to the year 2021, the number of registered eco-farmers has increased by a thousand – stressed Dr. Oszkár Ökrös, Deputy Secretary of State for International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the BIOFACH trade fair in Nuremberg.
In his presentation on the political current affairs of the organic farming sector in Hungary, the deputy state secretary pointed out that the national action plan aimed at domestic organic farming pays special attention to the system-level coordination of support instruments and the increase in domestic demand and supply. He also considers it important to ensure the training conditions of education, the network of consultants and experts, and the expansion of the state-of-the-art inspection and certification system, and the promotion of innovation, he added.
Oszkár Ökrös emphasized that the actors of the Hungarian agricultural and food sector are already important suppliers and exporters of the organic products market
The Ministry of Agriculture together with the Agricultural Marketing Center wants to help this position. At the community Hungarian stand, 10 export-oriented Hungarian companies present their products to the international audience. The Deputy State Secretary also held a bilateral meeting with Kristina Zeltner, Project Director of the Nuremberg Fair Center, on increasing the visibility and positioning of Hungarian companies and innovations. Oszkár Ökrös suggested to the director the creation of a geographical area award that would not be limited to product categories, and smaller countries would also have the opportunity to win it.
