Magazine: Presence: An exemplary programme that helps in the long run
Within the framework of the Presence Programme, the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service runs sustainable workshops that work for the benefit of the society. The main objective is to integrate marginalised people into the world of value-creating labour. Presence Programme is crisis-proof and puts successful products on the market. SPAR is the retailer partner of the programme: the products made end up on the shelves of SPAR and INTERSPAR stores, and the revenue from selling them is used to maintain and develop the workshops.
Recently a documentary has been made about the programme, its title is Presence and it gives an insight into the lives of workers, introducing how their work changes the lives individuals, families and communities. The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service has been operating a sewing workshop in Tiszabura since 2016, an artisan food workshop in Gyulaj since 2015 and there is a hibiscus tea packaging and shelf manufacturing workshop in Páty – in the latter mentally disabled people are employed.
