GfK’s April German consumer sentiment index improved
The consumer sentiment index of the GfK economic research institute in Nuremberg strengthened to an eight-month high in April, but it increased somewhat more mildly than expected.
The mood index rose to minus 29.5 points from minus 30.6 points in March. Analysts had expected a slightly bigger improvement, minus 29.2 points. The April value is still the highest since last August. The mood index improved for the sixth month in Germany, partly due to the easing of energy price inflation, which strengthened expectations that a recession could be avoided.
