Superfood was the theme of the 2024 competition, which was organised by the Hungarian Confectioners Guild and sought to call attention to Hungarian ingredients with high nutritional value.

Hungary’s Cake of the Year 2024 is “PoppyFlower”

The winner Alfréd Kovács received the certificate from President Balázs Erdélyi
“Blackbird Whistle” by Sándor Fodor (Habcsók Confectionery, Budapest) was the runner-up in Cake of Hungary, while third place went to “Black Pearl” by Ádám Novák and Noémi Domonkos (REÖK Artisan Confectionery and Café, Szeged). “Green Raspberry” by Ádám Novák and László Csonka from Szeged became the Sugar-free Cake of Hungary in 2024. //
Festive cake
On 19 and 20 August a special team of pastry chefs – the two current and two former winners – served the best cakes in the country this year, at the Street of Hungarian of Flavours festival: Alfréd Kovács (Édes Vonal Cukrászda, Vác), Ádám Novák and László Csonka (REÖK Artisan Confectionery and Café, Szeged), László Gyuris (Virág Confectionery and Café, Szeged), and László Zila (Zila Café and Krisztina Confectionery, Budapest). During the two days of the festival nearly 35,000 slices of this year’s winning cakes were sold.
