Innovative research methods for future-proof livestock farming
Sustainable livestock farming is key to both food security and the protection of our ecosystems. The World Resources Institute predicts that compared to 2010, global demand for meat and dairy products will increase by 68% until 2050, and for ruminant meat it will grow by 88%.

Livestock farming therefore needs solutions that both ensure animal welfare and minimise the negative environmental impacts of animal production. On-Farm research by the Research Institute of Organic Agricultural (ÖMKi) on pasture-based cattle farming uses mainly digital sensors to monitor and improve animal welfare while minimising losses. Digital devices can be used to monitor the health of each animal, allowing early disease detection and rapid intervention at individual level. //
