This is how chat programs replace telephone calls
The latest research by the National Media and Communications Authority (NMHH) examined the decline in the use of traditional telecommunication devices and the rise of chat programs. Based on the results, the decline of landline and mobile phones has been observed for years, while the popularity of chat applications is constantly increasing.
According to NMHH data, the use of landline telephones has fallen drastically in the last two decades. In 2005, Hungarians talked for a total of 10 billion minutes on landlines, but by 2023 this number was only 2 billion minutes, which means an 80 percent decrease. The use of mobile phones also shows a decreasing trend: in 2018, one and a half billion SMS messages were sent in Hungary, while in 2023 there will be only one billion. The average time of mobile phone conversations is also decreasing: in 2021, an average of 321 minutes of initiated calls per private subscription fell to 304 minutes by 2023.
