According to Tesco, this is how milk stays fresh longer
Milk is often on shopping lists, but due to its short shelf life, its purchase can easily lead to food waste. However, proper storage and freezing can prevent this problem while saving you money. Tesco’s advice offers a new way to keep milk fresh.
Tesco highlighted that skimmed and semi-skimmed milk are more ideal for freezing than full-fat versions. The higher fat content can make it difficult to freeze properly. It is important to use containers that are airtight and specifically suitable for freezing, as the volume of milk may increase during freezing.
Frozen milk can be kept for several months, but it is worth using it in the first months. Defrosting is always done in the refrigerator to minimize the risk of bacterial growth.
Tesco has also provided additional useful tips for freezing and thawing milk:
Before freezing the milk, drink a small amount of it or pour it out to make room for the expansion at the top of the container.
Milk takes about 12 hours to completely freeze.
Defrosting is done overnight in the refrigerator door after removing from the freezer. If you are worried about condensation, wrap a kitchen towel around the glass.
After the milk has melted, shake well before use to mix the ingredients evenly.
It’s also important to note that if the milk sits too long at room temperature while thawing, the number of bacteria can increase, which can lead to health problems. Therefore, it is important to perform the thawing correctly and to follow the rules of precaution.
