At the end of July, the admission point limits were made public, and since then the supplementary admissions have also taken place: with this, it will slowly be decided how many of the more than one hundred thousand applicants will continue their studies in higher education in the general procedure.

As in the past years, this year too it was possible to get into the most popular majors with high scores, which may give many people the impression that these qualifications also promise good prospects on the labor market – quick employment, high salary. However, this is not true in all cases: today, it is not necessarily the sought-after majors that require high scores that offer the greatest earning potential – points out Róbert Göbl, head of the Mind-Diák Szövetkezet. One of the country’s leading student cooperatives has collected the professions most sought after by employers and their corresponding average salaries, and offers tips to those who have not yet been hired for the desired profession this year.

The 2023-2024 academic year started with 96,000 students after the 86,000 a year earlier, and this number continued to grow as expected: the 2024-25 academic year is expected to reach one hundred thousand students. Summing up the numbers of full-time and correspondence courses, state scholarship and self-funded first-place applicants, the five most popular basic and undivided courses in this year’s admissions are economics and management (6801), psychology (4948), law (4178), nursing and patient care (3641) and trade and marketing (3581).

These majors promise the best conditions for career starters

The head of the Mind-Diák Szövetkezet pointed out that job-seekers starting their careers can most easily find employment in those areas where the competition for professionals is fiercest. Popular majors that require high scores do not always mean life insurance on the labor market.

“It’s just that there is oversaturation on the market in the case of HR, psychology, marketing, which are considered to be the most popular courses, as well as the various professions that require a degree in economics (for example, management and trade and marketing) – the majority of applicants for the Mind-Diák Szövetkezet internships come from these courses . The various office/administrative positions are usually filled within a very short time, over-subscription is typical throughout the year”

Róbert Göbl pointed out.
