Volume sales of household chemicals and cosmetics are rising again this year
Sales of household chemicals and cosmetics amounted to HUF 158 billion in the first six months of 2014. Value sales were 6 percent higher than a year earlier and volume sales improved by 2 percent. According to Mónika Barta, client service director of Nielsen, in the first half of 2013 household chemical product value sales only grew by 2 percent and volume sales fell by 2 percent. The reason behind the positive change this year is that the confidence of Hungarian consumers is growing. Last year Nielsen’ consumer confidence index kept growing from quarter to quarter and this year the positive trend continued. In January-June 2014 hypermarkets realised 34 percent of household chemical and cosmetics value sales. Drugstores were responsible for 32 percent of value sales. The 401-2,500m² channel’s share was 21 percent, 51-200m² stores were at 7 percent, 201-400m² and smaller-than-50m² stores were both at 3 percent.
