Croatia has the cleanest natural bathing waters in Europe
According to this year’s investigation by the European Commission (EC) and the European Environmental Protection Agency (EEA), Croatia has the cleanest natural bathing waters in Europe – the Croatian Tourist Board informed MTI on Thursday.
The EEA, in cooperation with the European Commission, examines the quality of bathing waters within the EU every year to assess whether there is a risk that bathers may become ill from viruses or bacteria. The report covers 22,081 locations in the EU, Switzerland and Albania.
During the investigation, 99.1 percent of coastal waters in Croatia were classified as excellent, which applies to 886 out of 894 bathing spots. You can find Blue Flag beaches almost everywhere, which guarantee excellent water quality and environmentally conscious beach management. The Blue Flag certification is awarded based on criteria such as water purity, safety, services and environmental protection.
