Pork could soon be a luxury
Unfortunately, the year 2022 significantly weakened the pig sector, and they had to face several factors of price increases. Although he did not want to make predictions, he revealed this much: until the economic situation settles down, it is a shame to wait for the price to drop – Tamás Éder, the president of the Meat Association, told Pénzcentrum.
“Three major factors behind the price increase must be highlighted: firstly, the significant price increase of the pre-animal. Last year there was a period when the price of live pigs was 80% higher than at the beginning of the year. At the end of the year, the price of live pigs was approximately seventy percent higher , than a year earlier. Then there are two other cost factors, which also rose significantly and of course had an impact on other sectors as well: one is the energy cost, which is particularly significant due to the nature of the sector’s activity, and the other is the increase in wages. The labor market the situation is known, now there has been a double-digit percentage wage increase for many years in a row”
– said Éder.
