Fish producers: the supply of fish will be plentiful at Christmas
The Christmas fish supply will be plentiful. The rainy weather favored the fish farmers, so they achieved better results this year than last year – the president of the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Association (Ma-Hal) told MTI.
Producers are selling fish at a 10-12 percent lower price this year – said István Németh, who is also the president and CEO of Togazda Halászati Zrt.
The consumer price of carp on the market and in the selling places is HUF 1,700-2,500 per kilogram, while that of horse mackerel is HUF 4-6,000. One kilogram of perch costs HUF 7-8 thousand. Processed fish is offered at a higher price.
Imported salmon can also be found in stores, but Ma-Hal encourages everyone to eat Hungarian fish. One of its advantages is that “its ecological footprint is lower and the food safety control is much stricter than with fish from distant countries,” said István Németh.
