The decline in German retail sales accelerated in February
In Germany, the decline in retail sales accelerated in February in a monthly and annual comparison.
The German statistical office, Destatis, announced on Thursday that retail sales fell by 1.9 percent in February compared to January, when a smaller, 0.4 percent monthly drop was registered. The average of experts’ expectations was a monthly increase of 0.4 percent for February.
In Germany, it was the fourth month in a row that retail sales fell month-on-month.
In February, in a month-on-month comparison, sales of food products decreased by 1.7 percent, and sales of non-food products by 1 percent.
