According to a survey, the global market for agricultural technology is growing at an accelerating rate
Due to the drastic increase in global food demand and the scarcity of water resources, the market for agricultural technologies is constantly growing and may exceed 43 billion dollars by 2030, the information technology service company Stylers Group announced.
They pointed out: due to population growth and the accompanying dynamically growing global food demand, the scarcity of water resources, and the increasingly frequent extreme weather conditions, agro-technological solutions are receiving more and more attention worldwide, they wrote. Data from a study published in December 2022 were presented and announced: South Asia is at the forefront of agricultural technology developments, but Western European states and the United States also have advanced agrotech ecosystems. The value of new investments in the sector increased from 1.1 billion dollars in 2018 to 4.9 billion dollars globally in 2021, according to the study. Among the technologies used in agriculture, the most significant are IoT (Internet of Things, 19 percent), robotics (17 percent) and artificial intelligence (14 percent) and precision agriculture, which uses a large amount of data collected by drones, sensors and other smart devices to help decision-making – quoted Gábor Gönczy, managing owner of Stylers, in the announcement.
According to the company group, automation and robotization stand out among the most important agrotech trends
These also increase efficiency in animal husbandry and crop production. Solutions such as indoor plant cultivation or micro-drip, which can improve water use by up to 50 percent, also point in the direction of sustainable agriculture. Hungarian agricultural startups also “excel” in these areas, for example with developments that are suitable for monitoring the quality of water resources or harvested and stored crops, they wrote. With the application of a Hungarian startup, farmers can protect themselves more effectively against insects, and another Hungarian-developed program provides an innovative solution for precision urban gardening.
