A teacher from Győr became this year’s #ZöldségGyümőlcsHós, his students were able to enjoy 100 kilograms of vegetables and fruits
2022 #ZöldségGyümölcsHőse Krisztián Szabó became a teacher at the Zoltán Kodály Singing and Music Primary School in Győr. The National Chamber of Agriculture and its campaign promoting the consumption of vegetables and fruits, the European Fresh Team, visited class 2b this morning and handed over the prizes. Gergely Németh, NAK Győr-Moson-Sopron county president, handed over 100 kilograms of vegetables and fruits to Krisztián Szabó, as well as exercise books to the children, who also received additional gifts from Frutti and Veggi.
“Krisztián Szabó and his class are an excellent example of how, under the guidance of dedicated teachers, children can be involved in the growing and processing of vegetables and fruits in today’s fast-paced, digital world, and in related tasks. And let’s not forget about consumption, which can be incorporated into their everyday lives more easily and efficiently in this way – linked to experiences and lived experiences. The title #ZöldségGyümőlcHős is actually a recognition of this work.” said the NAK county president. He added: considering that we are far behind not only the average daily minimum value of the World Health Organization, but also the annual EU average, programs such as the European Fresh Team and initiatives such as #VegetableHero are especially needed. This is especially true for the 6-18-year-old age group and for families raising children, which is why Krisztián’s activities are exemplary, because what and how he teaches the children, they take it home and can use it at home. – The importance of a healthy lifestyle, such as the consumption of fruits and vegetables, must be conveyed to children from an early age, which is why I think it is important to deal with the topic at school as well. I find that if children can follow the cultivation process and the intricacies of processing, they will eat them more willingly and become less picky. – says Krisztián Szabó, the dreamer of the Álomerdő – Álommenza program. He adds that, in the long term, the children can gain experience-based knowledge in the sessions, which they can use throughout their lives. “I am convinced that gastronomy is the basis of life education. It develops intellectual and emotional intelligence as well as social competences, which is why I built it as a unique element in the project. The children really enjoy working together and often prepare the delicacies together with the family at home, or their parents dare to involve them in the kitchen tasks.” – highlights 2022 #ZöldségGyümőcsHőse, whose activities and joint projects with children can be followed on the Facebook page “Uncle Tanító with a wooden spoon”. He goes on to remind us that by cooking and eating together, families can spend more quality time together and even experience new experiences, intimate moments, and create their own traditions.
About the #ZöldségGyümölcsHős competition
The #ZöldségGyümölcsHős competition was announced by the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) within the framework of the European Fresh Team, an educational campaign, for the second time this year. With the title #ZöldségGyümölcsHőse of Hungary, the aim is to recognize people who, with their interesting and inspiring stories, contribute to the promotion of vegetable and fruit consumption; with their work and hobbies, they are committed to making as many people as possible aware of the positive effects and wide range of uses of vegetables and fruits. Last year, the winner was Erika Horváth, head of the kindergarten in Orostony, who, with her small kindergarten garden, created an opportunity for her kindergarteners – and through them, their families – to get to know vegetables and fruits, from growing them to using them.
