Greece is offering free holidays to tourists affected by forest fires
Greek tourism authorities have announced that tourists who were forced to leave their accommodation after the wildfires in Rhodes last July will be offered a week’s free stay on the island. The purpose of the campaign is to compensate those affected by the fire. Due to last year’s fire, nearly 20,000 tourists had to leave the island, including about 90 Hungarian visitors.
The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, already announced last August that they would compensate those affected. Those concerned will receive an e-voucher, which they can redeem at a similar category of accommodation to the one they stayed in last year. Vouchers can be redeemed between April 10 and May 31 and between October 1 and November 15 at accommodations registered in the Rodos Week program.
The affected persons will be notified by e-mail by Greek hotels and tour operators. Reservations are possible between April 10 and May 26. This initiative offers tourists affected by last year’s fire the opportunity to enjoy the charm of the Greek islands for free.
