GLS: a leader in innovation
Launched in April 2023, GLS Hungary’s GLS XXL service opened up new horizons in domestic parcel logistics, making it possible for extra-large packages weighing up to 80kg to be delivered door-to-door the next day throughout Hungary.
GLS XXL also pays special attention to the method of delivery: the parcel is taken to the room specified by the recipient – whether it is a living room on the ground floor or a bathroom on the fourth floor – at no extra charge. If the first delivery attempt is unsuccessful, a second try is included in the basic price.
Digital transformation
The GLS App was launched in the summer of 2024 and – according to PwC’s 2025 logistics report – it is the most popular parcel delivery mobile app in Hungary. It has been downloaded more than 300,000 times to date and has an average rating of 4.9 on both Google Play and the App Store. With the update on 22 May 2025 a new feature was added to the system: the app now allows individuals to place their orders directly from the app, thus functioning as a full-fledged delivery platform in addition to its tracking feature. The app also offers a growing number of retail partners the opportunity to advertise their products, with in-app promotions generating outstanding conversion rates.
The next step
GLS has a new service, called Parcel Locker Express, which has been available to recipients since the beginning of summer. Parcels posted are guaranteed to arrive at the designated GLS parcel locker in Budapest by 8:00 on the next working day – even on Saturdays. There are currently more than 400 GLS parcel lockers in operation in the capital city. The system prioritises speed and predictability, making it particularly well suited to urban logistics solutions and effectively adapting to today’s consumer expectations for immediate access. (x)
