Resinous types of fruit can be produced without the need of genetic modification according to the expert
Due to the development of biotechnology, resistant genes can be produced without genetic modification. Because of the appearance of previously unknown pathogens, there is a need for new breeds – Kasztovszky Zoltán, Managing Director of the Magyar Kertészeti Szaporítóanyag Nonprofit Kft. (Hungarian Horticultural Propagating Material Ltd.) told M1 news channel on Friday.
The expert emphasized that the protection against plant diseases causes significant costs, so it is worth to produce resistant species. Species that were resistant decades ago can not withstand today’s illnesses, but it is also possible to breed a new fruit tree by using old varieties – he added. (MTI)
